The wide wooden pickets are unassuming, and keep this gorgeous antique secret from the street outside. It’s like an old hotel. Massive. Like a house made for giants. Or bears. The sparse rooms like empty caves, carpeted to slow the escape of heat. Extra high ceilings with plaster roses are not of this time. The bathroom; immense. Cracked tiles; a wrinkle in the face of time. A big backyard to match, with vegetables and herbs in an old bathtub. And she lives here alone. I can’t get over how beautiful it is.
